Seeker's' narrative revolves around memory, mystery, and Mars. It is set in 2250 in a military bunker 13 levels below Colorado. Lomond is a "seeker" who can read and interpret personal memories stored in AIs. The military forces Lomond to read memories from a mysterious AI, known as the "Wizard," which was found on Mars by his geologist ex-wife, Niamh.
Lomond reads the memories of Clara, creator of the "Wizard", who fought against the Terrans' exploitation of Mars' resources. Lomond's reading reaches its culmination when he witnesses a horrific scene of violence and extermination on Mars. He also discovers the military's involvement in Niamh's mission to Mars and her role in a cover-up.
Lomond's memories are altered by the "Wizard", causing him identify as a Martian survivor. As his terrestrial memories return, he realizes that he has been manipulated by the military. In a final, desperate bid to uncover the truth, Lomond accesses the memories of the Martians and the Terrans, revealing a shocking and disturbing history of exploitation and genocide.
