Friends and donors

As a friend and donor you will receive a charitable donation tax receipt to reduce your tax burden! (Tax credits from $59 to more than $744 are calculated below for your convenience.) Our Charity registration number is: 801959826RR0001.

We use your donations to subsidize student group tickets. The cheaper we can make student tickets, the more students can learn from a theatrical outing. Books and films are solitary experiences; but, in a theatre, each student becomes part of an audience, part of a unique, shared, living experience. Please help us to reach more of Montreal's most valuable assets--its youth.

Why donate?

"Societies need their artists so they have access to artistic works that explore the human condition at its darkest and most tragic recesses, but also at its most luminous, comic, or ecstatic. [...] If we do not support original, diverse, and abundant artistic and cultural opportunities, we give up defining and expressing our identities."--Simon Brault*

"Culture constitutes an essential dimension of our humanity in its individual and social expression. It is the key to three fundamental apprenticeships: learning to know, learning to be, and learning to live together. [...] Tell me who you chose to listen to, see, and read during your youth and I can begin to understand who you are."--Simon Brault*

In these time of increasing competition for support Talisman Theatre needs your help to sustain our mission to provide English-language theatre for Montreal audiences. Talisman Theatre is one of the independent voices of social commentary and criticism so necessary to the dialogues that maintain the kind of world that we want to live in. This world would be a much sorrier place without the socially-aware input from the artists whose vocation it is to live on the fringes that they might see more clearly the forces that dominate our lives.

Each production takes a dedicated team of actors, designers, and volunteers months in design and rehearsal and must be planned a year in advance. Even if all team members are paid at minimum artist union rates, the total cost (for space, artists, designers, and materials) for each production of 10 performances can reach as high as $50,000.00 not including the value of volunteer labour! Even so, the average artist in Montreal makes only $16,000 per year--and that includes other sources of income (and tips). So please do help support us.

*Simon Brault has long been linked to Montreal's cultural scene. He is CEO of the National Theatre School of Canada, the President of Culture Montréal, Vice-President of Canada Council of the Arts, and an Officer of the Order of Canada.

    • Direct mail;
    • Telephone fundraising;
